Inspired by flowers and foliage, Lisa creates bas relief casting to perfectly capture moments in nature.

Having studied both textiles and fine art, Lisa has largely moved away from painting in the last 5 years to focus on her current practice of Bas relief casting. This is the work that she has brought to her studio at Cockington Court. Immersed in the beautiful surroundings with so much inspiration provided by the diverse and ever changing flora and fauna of the grounds.

Flowers and foliage have been the inspiration for my work for as long as I can remember and “Innate Impressions” is my newest collection of  botanical cast tiles.

I think of my process as preserving a moment in nature, emphasising both the fragility and strength of nature.

My process is known as bas relief casting and perfectly captures plants in fossil like honest and uncomplicated permanence. The intricate detail of shape, form and texture is at the heart of my work and for this reason I largely leave my casts unpainted, occasionally adding pigment or gold leaf.

My compositions are inspired by and reflect the interrelationships of the plants I select whether these be from hedgerows, wildflower meadows, moorland or my own garden.

My approach is very much like planting my own garden. Choosing where to place each stem and flower sometimes for solitary appreciation but more often to create connection, cohesion and rhythmic synergy.

Lisa also takes commissions and preserves wedding and memorial flowers and is often asked to create casts using favourite flowers and those from loved gardens as small keepsakes or larger works of art. Please contact her to enquire about commissions and special preservations.
